Our story

Volunteer-built, since 2018

Orange Aquatic Club Incorporated was founded in 2018 to give swimmers of all ages and abilities the chance to improve their skills, compete, and be part of a club that backs them. We work on athleticism and character in equal measure, and we want swimmers who love the sport for its own sake.

And we race together: OAC swimmers compete at carnivals from local meets right through to state and national championships.

Every coach and committee member is 100% volunteer. No one draws a wage. The club runs on families who show up.

Joining OAC

Trials run around week 9 of each school term.

Swimmers need to have passed level 5 of a learn-to-swim program before trialling. Register your interest and we'll confirm the next date.

Before you dive in

Common questions

Does my child need to be able to swim already?

Yes. We're a squad club, not a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers joining Development (ages 6–12) need to have passed level 5 of a learn-to-swim program and be comfortable with repeat 50s of freestyle. If they're not there yet, the Orange Aquatic Centre swim school is the best next step before trialling.

How do trials work?

Trials usually run around week 9 of each school term. Email the registrar with your swimmer's age and swimming background and we'll confirm the next date (swimmers must have passed level 5 of a learn-to-swim program to trial). On the day, coaches assess technique and fitness in the water, and swimmers who meet the standard are offered a place in the squad that fits best. Not quite there yet? We'll tell you what to work on and when to come back.

When does the season run?

Squads train year-round. Summer training runs at the outdoor 50m pool from October to March, and sessions move indoors over winter. Carnival season peaks over summer, when the club races everywhere from local meets to state and national championships.

Do parents have to volunteer?

Every coach and committee member is a volunteer, so the club only exists because families pitch in. Most of it is jobs like timekeeping when we host or attend carnivals. The job's easy to learn, and you get the best seat in the house for the racing.
